DES MOINES, Iowa - An Iowa State trooper is being nationally recognized for his courage during a bank robbery in Maynard.

Last October, Jeremiah Mumford and William Clayton led officers on a chase, following the robbery then opened fire on authorities. The gunfire disabled several law enforcement vehicles. A bullet also hit and injured Sumner's Police Chief Denis Cain.

Trooper Mark Domino then went after the suspects himself. A shootout followed and Domino was shot in the right bicep. Despite his injury, he continued after the suspects who then crashed their car and fled into a wooded area. Authorities the pair them later that night and arrested them.

The Twentieth Annual TOP COPS Awards Dinner will be held during National Police week on Monday May 12th in Washington D.C.
