Officer Cited for Drinking in Public is Fired
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A Pleasant Hill police officer who was cited for drinking in public has been fired.
The Des Moines Register reports that 28-year-old Christopher Brooks was fired on Monday. He'd been with the department about 3 ½ years.
Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tim Sittig says several policy issues were involved in Brooks' termination.
Brooks declined to comment on his firing or the citation. The citation carries a fine of $123.
Brooks was cited for public consumption after Des Moines officers saw him drinking a beer while walking on a sidewalk at 2 a.m. on July 14. He later passed a blood-alcohol test.
