Iowa Man Arrested After Fatal Crash with Bicyclist
ADEL, Iowa (AP) — Authorities have arrested a central Iowa man on drug and traffic charges connected to a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist.
The Des Moines Register reports that 31-year-old Troy Wanninger of Adel was arrested Friday. He was charged with leaving the scene of accident resulting in death, failure to have a valid license, failure to have vehicle insurance and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard says an extensive investigation preceded the arrest. Wanninger was released from jail Friday pending trial. Online court records show he has been convicted of multiple traffic offenses over the years, including drunken driving and speeding.
Authorities say 67-year-old Edward Giedraitis of Dallas Center was killed in May after he was struck by a car while riding his bike.
