DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Iowa Lottery will give away $2 million in prize money that's been sitting around since two big jackpots weren't claimed last year.
The "Mystery Millionaire" promotion begins Sunday. Players who buy a $5 ticket pack can sign up on the lottery's web site for a chance to win prizes ranging from $10,000 to the grand prize of $1 million, which will be awarded at the Iowa State Fair.
The promotion will use Iowa's share of an unpaid $14.3 million Hot Lotto jackpot won with a ticket purchased in Des Moines and a $77 million Powerball jackpot.
The Hot Lotto jackpot generated headlines because a lawyer stepped forward hours before the deadline with the winning ticket, but wasn't paid after he refused to explain how he ended up with it.
