Iowa Democrats Gather for Fall Fundraiser

By Ben Hoppenworth

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa Democrats will gather to hear Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer speak at a fall fundraising dinner.

Schumer is the featured speaker at the Iowa Democratic Party's annual Jefferson Jackson dinner Saturday night. The event will be held in Des Moines.

Schumer has served in the Senate since 1999 and is the third-highest ranking Democratic member of the Senate.

The dinner is billed as an effort to rally support for Iowa Democrats in 2014.

U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley is the party's candidate for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin. Several Democrats are vying in the primary to run in the general election for governor next fall.
