Iowa City to Flush Water Hydrants
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa City officials are warning about water discoloration as they open and flush hydrants around the city for cleaning purposes.
Officials say the flushing will take place throughout March. The practice helps remove sediment and cleans water distribution pipes.
Rust from iron pipes may cause some temporary tap water discoloration. Officials recommend that residents wash laundry in the evenings or weekends.
The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports officials also will check hydrants to make sure there's adequate water pressure for the fire department during emergencies.
Flushing will take place between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
