IOWA CITY, Iowa - An Iowa City woman will be the sole U.S. participant in the upcoming International Peace Bike Tour in Japan. Michelle Gin, 23, will bike with other participants from around the world from Nagasaki to Hiroshima. Gin plans to depart for Japan this week ahead the the bike tour, which begins on August 7.

"I'll be with 34 other participants from around the world from Japan, India, Nepal, Nicaragua, Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Germany, Switzerland, Ukraine, everywhere," Gin said.

Gin is a recent University of Iowa graduate, who works as the assistant development director for the Iowa Physicians for Social Responsibility. Gin said a main focus of the ride is to protest nuclear weapon advancements by countries around the world.

"Our governments need to know this is not what we want," said Gin. "We all do share the same air across the world, the same ocean as everyone in the middle."

Bikers plan to meet with local and national leaders during the 340 mile trek. Gin said she is in a final push to raise money for the ride. More information can be found by clicking here:
