IOWA CITY, Iowa - Mark Twain Elementary School in Iowa City went on a precautionary lockdown Wednesday afternoon as state agents searched nearby for an unidentified man.
The DCI says the man is a suspect in the case of a missing girl who was found safe. State agents were still looking for the man Wednesday night. They say he was last seen in the 1600 block of Spruce Court, which is near Mark Twain Elementary in Iowa City.
Although the DCI has not identified him, it says the public is not in any danger. The DCI says the girl was on the missing person website.
Agents found her today, and she's safe.
At the school, police officers were on site and helped ensure kids got home safely, said Iowa City police Sgt. Denise Brotherton.
In a news release, the district said it “has followed emergency protocol and is working with the Iowa City Police Department to ensure the safety of the students.”
