Iowa City School District Working To Strengthen Arts Programs
By Mark Carlson, Reporter
IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Iowa City Community School District is working with local arts professionals and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC to strengthen arts programs within the school district.
Iowa City was recently selected by Kennedy Center to participate in their "Any Given Child" program, which aims to strengthen arts education for students in several districts across the nation.
With guidance from the Kennedy Center the district will tap into community resources to offer better opportunities for K-8 students.
"This is a great opportunity for us in a community that values the arts," said Steve Murley, superintendent.
Key partners like the University of Iowa's Hancher program will lead to better arts education within the district, officials said at a news conference Tuesday.
More information about the program can be found at the website anygivenchildic.org.
