IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The Iowa City Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in tracking down a man who ripped off an elderly resident.
According to a news release, the department has issued two arrest warrants for second-degree theft for 25-year-old Matthew J. Brown. Police said on July 23 and on Oct. 11, Brown charged an Iowa City resident an excessive fee for performing a minimal amount of yard work. The scam cost the resident several thousand dollars, police said.
Police said they have been unable to locate Brown and believe he might have scammed other residents in the area. Anyone who believes they have been victimized by Brown should call the police department at 356-5276. Police advise residents to call local law enforcement if they spot Brown.
Second-degree theft is a class D felony punishable by five years in prison.
