Iowa City Police Investigating Unwanted Sexual Advances in Cabs
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa City Police are investigating three separate reports of a male cab driver coming onto female passengers.
The first incident happened early in the morning on January 15. Police say the woman was picked-up by an unknown cab company downtown. The woman told police the driver made unwanted sexual advances toward her. Police say the woman escaped unharmed. The suspect in this incident was described as a middle-aged, non-white man.
The second report happened around 4:30 a.m. on January 25th. The woman told police she was picked-up by an unknown cab company downtown. While driving, the cab driver pulled off the road and made an advance. This woman also escaped safely. The suspect in this incident is also described as a middle-aged, non-white man.
The third report happened at 12:30 a.m., February 16 in the downtown area. The woman told police it was a driver with American Taxi Cab. This driver also pulled-over and made an advance. The woman escaped unharmed. She described the suspect as a non-white man.
At the time the third victim got in the cab, she observed a college aged white male passenger. This subject was dropped off by the cab company near the area of Iowa and Dodge between 11:30 p.m. on February 15 and 12 a.m. on February 16, 2014, prior to the incident. The Iowa City Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in identifying this person.
Iowa City Area Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward for information leading to the arrest of this suspect. Anyone with information about this crime is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 358-TIPS (8477). All calls are held in strict confidence and anonymity is guaranteed. Individuals providing information do not have to reveal their identity to collect a reward.
