Iowa City Officials Seek Ideas to Redesign City Park

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Officials in Iowa City are seeking ideas to redesign a popular park after flooding last summer left it strewn with sand and debris.

Iowa City Parks and Recreation Director Mike Moran says officials will request proposals this month for a redesign of City Park. They intend to hire a firm in May then have public input meetings this summer. Work on the project could begin this fall.

Moran tells the Iowa City Press-Citizen that the city is not making any recommendations for specific changes in its request for proposals. They want to see what ideas a firm and public meetings will generate.

The city estimates it will spend at least $50,000 to hire a company. The work will carry a budget of at least $200,000 to $300,000.
