Iowa City Man Accused of Stealing Bottles of Grey Goose, Reselling $20 Each
IOWA CITY, Iowa - A 20-year-old Iowa City man is in the Johnson County Jail today after authorities said they’ve watched him steal more than 50 bottles of Grey Goose Vodka from Wal-Mart over the past month.
Mack Delonnie Blumingburg was arrested about 6 p.m. Thursday after staff at the Iowa City Wal-Mart at 919 Highway 1 West reported catching him trying to steal eight bottles of Grey Goose Vodka, which can cost about $30 each.
Wal-Mart security personnel said they’ve been watching Blumingburg for the past month and saw him take bottles of Grey Goose Vodka on Aug. 10, Aug. 15, Aug. 27, Aug. 29 and Sept. 7, according to a criminal complaint.
Blumingburg is accused of taking the vodka in the evening or late-night hours on those days, police reported. On Sept. 7, Blumingburg is accused of taking 17 bottles at once, according to the complaint.
In total, police report that Blumingburg took 51 bottles of Grey Goose, valued at $1,633.02. Blumingburg admitted to four of the thefts and said he’s been reselling the vodka for $20 a bottle, according to the complaint.
Blumingburg admitted that some of the buyers were under 21, like himself, police reported.
He faces charges of second-degree theft, a felony, and bootlegging, a serious misdemeanor. He is being held in the Johnson County Jail in lieu of a $3,500 bond.
