IOWA CITY, Iowa - Since its founding in 1991 the Iowa City Jazz Festival has transformed into a nationally recognized festival, with an average annual audience of more than 50,000 people.

People gathered the green, green grass of the Pentacrest tonight. They bopped to the beat, some swaying and dancing . . . Even stealing a quick kiss.

Others played games on the lawn, like frisbee or catch, but music wasn't all the festival had to offer. Some hung out by the food, enjoying the ribs and brunt ends and other tasty treats.

The sights, smells and sounds filtered through the downtown all leading up to the launching of the fireworks over the Old Capitol. The Jazz festival has other family friendly activities including outdoor ice skating! Yep, in July. Don't forget the celebration runs through Sunday.
