IOWA CITY, Iowa – A city public works employee suffered minor injuries after a vehicle involved in a collision hit him while he was working Friday morning.

Iowa City Police Sgt. Denise Brotherton said it appears a vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard shortly after 9 a.m. The vehicle hit another vehicle, which then hit a pedestrian, she said.

Brotherton said an accident report has not yet been filed and she did not immediately have more details.

Rick Fosse, Iowa City’s public works director, said the person hit was an employee in the Streets Division serving as a flagger for some maintenance work. The man was treated and released at a hospital, Fosse said.
