Iowa City Childcare Provider Charged With Endangerment
By Hayley Bruce, Reporter
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- An Iowa City daycare provider faces child endangerment charges after police say she left infants alone in her home while she went to pick up her own children from school.
According to a complaint from the Iowa City police department, police were called to 442 North Scott Boulevard at 11:35 on April 18 for a report that children had been left in the house alone.
When police arrived, a witness said he saw Brenda Leigh Wallace, 43, driving away from the house and he suspected his child was inside.
The complaint said the male witness went into the house through the unlocked door and found infants -- including his own child -- in playpens upstairs with no adults present.
The complaint said the witness then saw Wallace return to the house about 25 minutes later.
Police said Wallace admitted to leaving three children alone in the house while she left to pick up her own kids from school.
Wallace was charged with three counts of child endangerment for leaving an 8-month, 9-month, and 21-month old alone with no supervision.
