Iowa City Again Seeks Knitters For Tree Sweaters

  • Photo
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) Iowa City is looking for more volunteers to knit colorful sweaters that will be wrapped around trees as part of a downtown street art project.

The Tree Huggers Project decorated dozens of trees last year, and 135 trees have been selected for this year's effort.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen says this year's color palate will include cream and light gray, accented by eggplant, blue, orange and dark brown. The wool-acrylic yarn blend that will be used can stand up to the elements.

Volunteers must register online at Yarn kits will be available at Home Ec. Workshop. Knitters have until Oct. 25 to finish their work and return the tree sweater to Home Ec.
