WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa lawyer will be unable to work for 30 days because of problems with her record-keeping and the way she handled payments from her clients.
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the Iowa Supreme Court suspended Sara Kersenbrock's license.
Kersenbrock had been accused of mishandling payments from clients and failing to deposit retainer payments into a client trust account. She also failed to reconcile the trust account on a monthly basis.
In one case, Kersenbrock received a $3,000 cash retainer in February 2011, and then put most of the money in a book and gave an employee a $100 bonus.
Kersenbrock says her record-keeping has improved. And she says she didn't always deposit retainer payments because sometimes she had earned them by the time she received them.
