Iconic Metrodome Roof Deflated for Stadium Demolition

By Chris Earl, Reporter and Anchor

MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota - For 32 years, sports fans have grumbled about the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

On Saturday, the air went out of the dome, literally.

At 7 a.m. crews turned off the fans and opened vents to let the air out.

It took about 35 minutes to deflate the Metrodome's Teflon roof, changing the skyline forever. Officials say falling snow probably sped up the process.

Crews will begin demolishing the rest of the Metrodome Monday.

One historical note, the Iowa Hawkeyes played the Gophers 14 times in the Dome -- winning 8 of the indoor showdowns.
