Ice Jam Repairs to Cost $20-25,000

By Dave Franzman, Reporter

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa- The repair bill is now in for the ice jam damage to the Ellis Boat Harbor in Cedar Rapids last month.

The large blocks of ice that caused street flooding in the Time Check neighborhood also damaged property in the boat harbor area of the Cedar River. The ice broke electrical poles and forced crews to make service repairs to connect the boat houses in the harbor. The Cedar Rapids River Recreation Commission learned Thursdays the estimate for permanent repairs will probably run from $20,000 to $25,000.

Bids for the work are expected to go out sometime in mid-May. The commission hopes the electric repair work can wrap up by Memorial Day, which is the unofficial start to boating season.
