IOWA CITY. Iowa - Iowa City School District leaders kicked off the beginning of a series of meetings concerning school attendance and zoning, Wednesday night.
It's been a contentious issue, and the district is asking for parent feedback on implementation of its new diversity policy. The diversity policy will move students to even out the number of low-income students among schools. The district also is dealing with considerable growth and plans to build two more elementary schools and a high school, while closing one elementary school.
"Schools only one component of a what makes a great community," said Chace Ramey, the district's chief human resources officer. "So we want to be open to hearing what our patrons, our parents, our community members have to say."
