Husker Fans Spend Thanksgiving Invading Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Thousands of Nebraska Cornhusker fans trickled into Iowa City on Thursday ahead of the final Hawkeye football game of the season.

It was a fitting way to spend a holiday, according to Patty Woodruff, a Nebraska native who arrived with her husband, Woody, at about 2:00 p.m.

"We're just a good traveling team, we like to follow our Huskers," Patty Woodruff said. The couple hadn't originally planned to go to the game until they decided to take a minor detour on their way back from a funeral in Ohio.

"We're driving right down the interstate, so we called the ticket office," said Woody Woodruff. "We may as well stop rather than drive down the interstate waving at everybody."

The game is set for 11:00 a.m. Friday morning. While it has been a disappointing year for the Hawkeyes, the Huskers are looking to rack-up their tenth win of the season.

"I think the Huskers will win," said Joe Roberts, a Husker fan from Lincoln, NE. "I'm not going to say by how much."

Many have predicted a mass ticket sell-off by Hawkeye ticket holders, leading to a very red and white Kinnick Stadium on Friday.

Roberts said he is expecting at least 20,000 Husker fans to be in attendance. His wife, Sheryl, said she expects up to 35,000 Nebraska fans to enter Kinnick by kickoff.
