DRAKESVILLE, Iowa - A nonprofit animal group said it's assisting authorities in recovering hundreds of animals from a small southeast Iowa town.

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa said it's taken nearly 300 living animals from a Drakesville home in Davis County. Many are barn animals and include 30 different species. The ARL said there were also about 50 dead animals in the home.

The owner has voluntarily turned over the animals.

The ARL said the huge addition puts a strain on its resources.
