House District 52 Special Election Set for January 22
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A special election date has been set to fill the vacancy in a northern Iowa House seat left open when a lawmaker resigned.
Gov. Terry Branstad has set Jan. 22 as the date for voters in Floyd, Chickasaw and Cerro Gordo counties to go to the polls.
The House District 52 seat is vacant since Rep. Brian Quirk announced Wednesday he would resign immediately. Quirk, a Democrat, says he'll announce his future plans soon. He had won election to the seat in the general election Nov. 6.
Tom Sauser, a Democrat and retired teacher and coach from New Hampton, is the only candidate to announce so far.
