Homeless Shelter to Close Temporarily

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - A homeless shelter in Cedar Rapids has closed, but only temporarily.

Officials with the Cedar House Emergency Shelter estimate they'll close for a couple weeks. Their director of operations recently retired and officials say they'd like time to prep her replacement. Plus, the shelter plans to rework some of its intake protocols.

"We realized that there were some things that we could do to improve our services and better help the population which we are trying to serve," said Liz Wardzinski, the director of operations.

The shelter was housing 15 people. Officials say they've found permanent housing for most of them. As of Friday afternoon, they were still trying to place the remaining three.
