IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Fire and ambulance officials had to rescue a drunken homeless man from a small island in an Iowa City park earlier this month.
According to Iowa City police criminal complaints, officers responded to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area around noon on July 6 for a report of a drunk man passed out in the lake. Police said they witnessed 47-year-old James A. Miell lying on his side on a small island in the lake.
Police said first responders from the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance Service had to go out on a boat to rescue Miell.
Miell showed signs of intoxication and provided a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol content was .250 percent. He now faces charges of public intoxication – third offense. Miell has prior public intoxication convictions from June 2012 and June 2013.
