By Ellen Kurt

ATKINS, Iowa - A pick-up crashed into a utility pole this morning, knocking out phone service in the Atkins area.

The state patrol says a pick-up pulling a trailer ran off the road to avoid a vehicle in front of it, but the truck still clipped that vehicle and then hit the utility pole, splitting it in half. That was at the intersection of Highway 30 and 32nd Avenue in Benton County.

Two other vehicles also had damage after hitting downed wires. The Iowa State Patrol estimates the total amount of damage was about $50 thousand. No one was hurt.
