Heart Bus Stops in Cedar Rapids For Low-Cost Screenings

By Heather Hubbs, Reporter

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women. And the only cure is prevention. That's why the University of Iowa Health Alliance has teamed up with Healthfair to help stop heart disease before it starts, by bringing the Heart Bus through Iowa.

On board the bus, patients can get six different heart screenings performed in less than one hour. They offer an Echocardiogram, a 12-Lead EKG, Carotid Artery Ultrasound, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound, Ankle Brachial Index, and an Arterial Stiffness Index.

Having all six of these tests done would normally cost $2,000 to $3,000 in a hospital setting, but on the bus it only costs $179. That is an out-of-pocket cost, as they don't bill insurance companies.

The bus will be in Cedar Rapids on Wednesday at the old K-Mart Plaza on Collins Road NE from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.. On Thursday, the bus will parked at Walgreens on 16th Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. For more information go to www.Iowahealthfair.com
