MARION, Iowa - Democratic State Senator Jack Hatch spent Saturday criss-crossing Eastern Iowa for visits to county conventions in Waterloo, Coralville and at the Linn County Democratic Convention in Marion.

The senator from Des Moines is one of the announced candidates for the Democratic nomination for governor against incumbent Terry Branstad.

Hatch said the path to economic recovery for Iowa is through manufacturing.

"We're going to actually build the base of our manufacturing plants here in Iowa and our small businesses in our small towns and our big city neighborhoods. That's where the jobs are created and that's where I want to partner with my community and fellow Iowans," Hatch said.

The Des Moines Register released an Iowa Poll Saturday on the governor's race, revealing at this early stage, Governor Branstad with a 44-29 lead over Hatch in a head to head match-up.

Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds was in Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Bettendorf on Saturday for various Republican County Conventions.
