DES MOINES (AP) — The president of a private group that owns the dam at Lake Delhi says he's hopeful that federal money will be available to help rebuild it.

The dam failed last month, draining the lake.

Delaware County is included in a presidential disaster declaration providing public assistance for recovery from severe weather and flooding.

Jim Willey of the Lake Delhi Recreation Association noted Monday that although the dam is privately owned, the lake is controlled by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and is open to the public.

Joshua DeBerge of the Federal Emergency Management Agency says it's premature to say if the dam will be eligible. He says officials are aware that federal money was authorized for dam repairs in 2008, and they are reviewing those decisions.
