Green Tongues at Marion Tomato Tasting

By Larry Burkum

MARION, Iowa - You've heard of green thumbs? How about green tongues?

Saturday afternoon, Culver's Garden Center in Marion hosted a tomato tasting contest.

People who stopped by from noon to three were told to grab a toothpick-- have a taste from the smorgasbord-- and vote for their favorite.

The winners get a special place in the Culver's garden.

"We do it to decide what to grow for the following season. People pick their favorite tomato, then we produce on that," said Luanne Fowler.

This is the second year for the event.
