Grant to Help Meals on Wheels Provide More Meals
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Back in December, generosity from KCRG viewers helped feed eastern Iowa senior citizens.
The Fill the Plate Telethon brought in about $106,000 for the Heritage Area Agency on Aging. Those funds support the Meals on Wheels program.
The telethon is now paying off even more.
Subarau's Share the Love campaign and Dave Wright Subaru have provided a $15,000 grant to the program.
Heritage officials say this additional grant money will help offset declines in donations and cuts in federal funding for the Meals on Wheels program.
"Unfortunately within the last couple weeks we had to institute a 5 percent cut in available funding immediately. And then we're looking at an additional 10 percent cut in the number of meals that are able to be funded," said Tim Getty.
Meals on Wheels provides daily meals, safety checks, and companionship for thousands of Iowans.
