WAUKON, Iowa - Governor Terry Branstad was in Waukon Tuesday morning touring damage caused by flash flooding over the weekend.

The flooding caused significant damage to businesses located on First and Main Streets, including Cunningham's Hardware Store where the flooding caused an estimated $3 million damage.

Homeowners said water was waist deep early Sunday morning. Residents say more than 5" of rain fell on the area, causing the flooding.

Governor Branstad said the damage is much worse than he expected. On Monday, the Governor declared the Waukon a state disaster area. Branstad is now seeking a federal disaster declaration.
