DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A Girl Scouts group has decided to expand and modernize a camp in New Liberty and keep three other camps Eastern Iowa after a plan to sell the properties brought heavy criticism and a court challenge.
The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois board says it will recommend Camp Conestoga in New Liberty be modernized and expanded for year-round use. After the project is complete, land no longer needed will be sold.
The council says it wants to use three other camps - Tahigwa near Decorah, Little Cloud in Dubuque, and L-Kee-Ta near Danville for outdoor activities and overnight camps. After a review, land no longer needed will be sold.
The recommendation will go to a vote at the group's next board meeting scheduled for April 11.
