Gilbertville Teen Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash

JESUP, Iowa - A Gilbertville resident died in a two-vehicle crash south of Jesup Tuesday evening.

According to Iowa State Patrol, a 16-year-old driver from Gilbertville was traveling westbound on 270th Street around 10:05 p.m. Tuesday, when it was struck by a vehicle driven by 57-year-old Steven Phillips, of Jesup. Phillips was heading northbound on Benson Shady Grove Road when it collided with the other vehicle, authorities said.

Phillips was transported to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo for non-life threatening injuries.

The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, Jesup firefighters and paramedics assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
