German Center in Davenport Seeks to Pay Off Debts
DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — The German American Heritage Center in Davenport is trying to raise $180,000 to qualify for two grants with hopes of paying off debts and achieving long-term stability.
The center's executive director, Janet Brown-Lowe, says she's working to build support for the organization, especially from the many area residents with German heritage. The Quad-City Times reports the center has raised about $100,000 and needs to reach $150,000 by April. It has until the end of the year to raise the final portion. The grants Brown-Lowe wants to match are from the Riverboat Development Authority and the Bechtel Trusts and Foundation. The money would pay off debts that arose during a 14-month period without a director. The center includes permanent and rotating exhibits that tell the story of immigrants to Iowa. |
