Fundraiser for New Clayton County K9 Exceeds Goal
CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa - The Clayton County sheriff's office is getting a new canine officer -- and more -- thanks to area residents and businesses.
Deputy Matt Moser has been partnered with Bear for almost four years. But the 9 year old Belgium Maelinwa began showing his age earlier this year.
The sheriff's office held a fundraiser this summer for a replacement dog, which costs $11,000. That event raised almost twice that amount.
The Sheriff's Office will use the extra funds to replace safety equipment in the K9 patrol vehicle, and for maintenance and training of the new police dog.
Once the department gets a new dog, Bear will stay home with the Moser family.
