MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A federal fugitive has been arrested after a brief standoff with officers in northern Iowa's Mason City.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports that 25-year-old Levi Andersen was taken into custody on Thursday evening.

Mason City police say Andersen had been sought on a federal warrant stemming from his original convictions for weapons violations. Andersen is a former Mason City resident.

Officers had been tipped that Andersen was at the residence in central Mason City, and they went there about 5:30 p.m. They identified themselves and asked that Andersen surrender.

Officers went inside after about an hour and searched the house. Andersen was found hiding in the basement crawl space.

No injuries have been reported.
