IOWA CITY, Iowa - The free lunch program in Iowa City had settled in quickly to a new location on the south side of town. The program is now being housed inside a red brick building at 1105 Gilbert Court, the site of the "1105 Project."

The move comes after free lunch spent decades in the Wesley Center located along Dubuque Street near downtown. Officials say the new location offers more space and easier parking.

Several other agencies are also using the building to expand their own services. The Crisis Center of Johnson County also has space in the building along with mental health and domestic abuse providers.

The agencies began moving into the building within the last couple of weeks. It is expected to be fully operational by February, officials said.

The move means more social services are being provided in the same south side neighborhood. The Salvation Army, Crisis Center and Shelter House are all nearby. Officials say they're taking part in neighborhood meetings should any concerns arise with so many services provided in one area.
