ELY, Iowa – Four young men from Solon were hurt in an early-morning rollover crash near Ely, including one young man who was thrown from the car, authorities said.
Shortly after midnight Thursday, a southbound car driven by Zachary A. Cornwell, 20, went off the road in the 10000 block of Spanish Road, rolled into the west ditch and stopped on its top, according to the Linn County sheriff’s office. One of two back seat passengers, Anthony J. Donovan, 20, was found in the ditch, about 25 feet from the car, authorities said.
An ambulance transported Donovan to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. His injuries did not appear life-threatening, authorities said.
Front seat passenger Jacob M. Smith, 19, back seat passenger John J. Bucklin, 18, and Cornwell were transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Their injuries also did not appear life-threatening, authorities said.
Deputies determined Donovan was not wearing his seat belt, but the other three young men were. An investigation was continuing and charges were pending.
