Four Buried Tanker Cars Found at Waterloo Plant Site
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Demolition workers have found four railroad tanker cars buried at a former plant site in Waterloo.
City officials don't suspect the cars hold any hazardous materials and say the city knew the cars were at the former Chamberlain Manufacturing Corp. site. Chris Western, of the city planning department, says the city was told the cars had been cleaned and were filled with sand. Western says the city will be asking Chamberlain Manufacturing to pay the expected $2,000 cost of removing them. Chamberlain is now a part of The Duchossois Group of Elmhurst, Ill. He also says that if the cars are indeed cleaned out and pose no environmental hazard, it wouldn't hurt to leave them buried in place. |
