Former Waukee Council Member gets New City Job

By Rachel Begle

WAUKEE, Iowa (AP) - The Waukee City Council has approved hiring a former council member as the director of the city's new Community and Economic Development Department.

The Des Moines Register reports that Dan Dutcher resigned from the council for personal reasons in April. Dutcher was elected to a four-year term in 2009.

The Waukee council approved the creation of the new department in May.

Mayor Bill Peard says the hiring process was open, honest and "pretty transparent." City Administrator Tim Moerman says more than 30 people applied for the post.

Dutcher had been a senior vice president at Terrus Real Estate Group for several years. He is scheduled to begin his new job on Aug. 19 at a salary of nearly $88,600.
