WATERLOO, Iowa - A Waterloo teacher convicted last month for spanking a 17-year-old male student and making him take a chocolate syrup shower was sentenced to two years in prison Monday in Black Hawk County District Court.
Larry Twigg, a former West High computer instructor, was convicted by a jury of five counts of lascivious conduct with a minor. He will also be on parole for 10 years after serving jail time as part of a special sentence for sex offenders.
According to trial testimony, Twigg spanked the student, made him play strip video games and take a chocolate syrup shower in his boxer shorts to make up missed assignments in 2009 and 2010.
Twigg also faces new charges of two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee involving an 18-year-old between 2008 and 2009. His trial is set July 30.
He was arrested on the new charges after he left the courtroom following the trial verdict in May, Black Hawk County Assistant Attorney Peter Blink said.
This was Twigg's second trial for the lascivious conduct charges. He won an appeal after the 2011 trial conviction based on the state allowing students which alleged similar conduct by Twigg to testify but Twigg wasn't charged with those incidents and the testimony shouldn't have been included, according to the ruling.
