DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Former presidential candidate Howard Dean will appear at an Iowa Federation of Labor event next week.

A spokesman for Dean's Democracy for America organization says Dean will speak at the labor convention in Altoona next Wednesday. Neil Sroka says the speech will focus on ways for Democrats to pick up more seats in state legislatures.

Dean founded the political action committee Democracy for America after his failed 2004 presidential bid. He served as governor of Vermont from 1991 through 2003. After his presidential effort, he served as president of the Democratic National Committee.
