Former Officer Charged with Child Sex Exploitation

BOONE, Iowa (AP) — A Boone police officer has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor and sending obscene material by telephone.

Court documents say Rodney Allen Thompson was released Tuesday after a court appearance.

A court complaint alleges that an underage girl says Thompson sent her text messages last August asking her to send him partially nude pictures of herself. The complaint says she complied and he responded by sending her a nude picture of himself.

The Ames Tribune reports that Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation began investigating on August 15. Thompson was placed on leave. He resigned two days later.

Charges were filed Monday.

Thomson, 42, waived a preliminary hearing Tuesday and no other court dates have been set.

His attorney, Steve Nalean of Boone, declined to comment.
