The latest flood recovery news from Eastern Iowa:

State and FEMA representatives are in Jones County Wednesday assessing the county’s damages. Throughout the day, Jones County Emergency Management Coordinator Brenda Leonard will go door to door to assess individual property damage. Reports and funding from the state and FEMA could be delayed because parts of Olin and Oxford Junction are still underwater.

The American Red Cross will travel in two emergency response units to Delaware County in the Delhi area. A Red Cross van will travel to Jones County.

Tuesday, the mobile units distributed food and water. Wednesday, the units will focus on distributing clean-up kits as well.

50 clean-up kits will be dropped off in the Independence area. Delaware County Emergency Management will pick up 500 clean-up kits from the Red Cross.

The Cedar Rapids Salvation Army will not use their canteen unit Wednesday. Tuesday, the agency distributed more than 200 clean-up kits and 1,500 bottles of water.

The Salvation Army is currently assisting 12 people who were left homeless after the Blue Inn was flooded this past weekend with temporary housing for three nights. You can pick up clean-up kits, snacks, and food at your local fire or police department.

Emergency shelter opening

The Grant Wood Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is opening an emergency shelter on Thursday and Friday at the Earlville Elementary School, 213 Stow Street, Earlville, to help residents impacted by the flood by offering a safe place to stay, a hot meal, minor first aid, and a shoulder to lean on. The shelter will open at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

With RAGBRAI coming through the area, residents who have elected to stay in hotels while displaced from their homes may now need overnight shelter. The Red Cross shelter is only for residents displaced by flooding, not RAGBRAI riders.

Red Cross emergency response vehicles are providing food, bottled water and clean up kits today in Manchester, Lake Delhi, Monticello and Olin.

The Red Cross is also offering clean up kits beginning this afternoon in the following locations:

Edgewood City Hall, 203 West Union Street, Edgewood

Hopkinton City Hall, 115 Southwest 1st Street, Hopkinton

Lake Delhi Area, Barb DeKlotz home, 20796 262nd St, Delhi

Manchester Community Services Building, 601 Grant Street, Manchester

Independence Fire Department, 113 4th Ave SE, Independence

Monticello City Hall, 200 East 1st Street, Monticello

As of Tuesday, July 27, the Red Cross has provided approximately 1,400 meals and snacks and 2,900 bottles of water to residents in Buchanan, Delaware and Jones counties affected by flooding.
