  • Photo
IOWA CITY, Iowa Five men are accused of fourth-degree theft after police say they attempted to steal money from the doorman at an Iowa City bar.

Complaints said police received a call of a robbery in progress at The Yacht Club, 13 S. Linn St., at 12:35 a.m, in which the caller told dispatchers a group of 8 men were fighting with the doorman. After arriving on scene, the doorman said he was taking money at the door when one of the men in the group tried to take the cash drawer away from him and a struggle ensued. The doorman said he was able to hold on to the drawer, but not the money, which totaled about $300.

When officers got to to the area, complaints said they approached a group of males in the area who began running from them. Other officers in the area were able to detain the group of men a block away.

Joshua Hamilton, 24, Chicago Ill., Devasier Cungtion, 19, Cedar Rapids, Morris Williams, 18, Cedar Rapids, Edward Collins Jr., 21, Cedar Rapids, David Henry, 26, Cedar Rapids were all charged with fourth-degree theft in connection with the incident. Collins Jr. was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after police said they found marijuana on him during a search.
