Firefighter Killed at Western Iowa Crash Scene

SHELBY, Iowa — A Shelby firefighter has been killed while directing traffic around an accident scene on Interstate 80 in western Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as Michael Collins, 41, of Minden.
The patrol says Collins was struck by a car around 6:50 p.m. Sunday at the scene of the earlier crash on Interstate 80 just east of the Shelby exit in Pottawattamie County.
The patrol says Collins was hit by a car driven by David Lee Thies, 43, of Ames.
The accident is being investigated.
