WASHINGTON, Iowa - Fire destroyed a Washington home Tuesday afternoon. The fire was reported at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday at 2180 Lexington Avenue in Washington, directly across the street from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
As of 3:30 p.m., fire departments from surrounding communities were still on scene fighting the fire, which appears to have destroyed the home.
Police Chief Greg Goodman said there are no injuries and the cause remains under investigation. No one was inside the home when the fire started, said Goodman.
The State Fire Marshal's office plans to investigate the cause.
