Fire in Shellsburg Leaves Police Chief's Home Damaged

SHELLSBURG, Iowa - The Chief of Police in Shellsburg, Iowa may be without a home following a fire that spread from his garage to his house early Wednesday evening.

The fire was called in at approximately 5:45 p.m. at the home of Shellsburg Police Chief Marty Evans, 105 Oak Street Southwest. Authorities believe it started in the garage and quickly spread to the house. Though three people were home at the time of the fire, none were injured.

Several fire departments responded to the call, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Chief Evans has been with the City of Shellsburg since 1997.
